Saving Occupancy Costs with High Density Filing & Storage Solutions

Over the last few months we discussed the movement to more open plan workstations led by the introduction of the “benching concept” into the North American contract furniture market. While we have discussed many of the advantages of this workstation design, the reduction in space requirements is one of the leading factors resulting in a corresponding reduction in occupancy costs.

The concept of doing more with less is not just limited to workstation design but to many other areas of the work environment. This would also involve the amount of space required for filing and storage. Mayline and its Kwik-File subsidiary have been leaders in providing high density filing and storage products.

High density filing and storage solutions can typically cut your square footage requirements in half or more saving on occupancy costs. This can result in paying for the product in 15 months or less where occupancy costs are $30 per square foot or more.

Introduction of the Mayline Mobile 1000 Series

* The ability to meet competitor product specifications including Spacesaver. This was not the case with the Mobile 820 system.
* Value engineering which resulted in an improved design and a reduction in dealer/end-user cost.
* Design changes in the carriages and tracks, which reduces the number of tracks required in most systems.
* Non-grouted all steel re-levelable tracks, allowing for easy re-leveling over time as may be required.
* The non-grouted design also allows for easy relocation or future expansion. The ability to mobilize and compact four post shelving, file cabinets, storage cabinets, lateral files, wire shelving, racking, roll out drawers, slat walls, etc.
* Reduction in the number of components per system, leading to easier and less costly installation.
* Low profile and ADA ramp options available.

While we are experiencing an increase in digital filing, we are still a long way from seeing the demise of paper and the need to file it. We have discussed the paperless office for more than 20 years now. While we are certainly moving in that direction, paper and its filing will still be with us for a long time.
